Automation Developer
Key Responsibilities & Requirements
- Experience: 1-3 years of experience in software development, test automation, or related engineering roles, with hands-on experience developing automated tests.
- Automation Development — Core Requirement:
- Develop, enhance, and maintain automated test scripts for Mobile Applications and APIs based on test cases, business flows, and acceptance criteria provided by QA.
- Hands-on experience with Appium and TypeScript.
- Good understanding of async / await, promises, and asynchronous execution in JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Familiarity with Playwright for web or hybrid application testing.
- Able to write clean, reusable, and maintainable automation code following coding standards and framework conventions.
- Testing & Business Flow Understanding:
- Able to understand test cases, expected results, business rules, and system flows sufficiently to implement meaningful automated tests.
- Able to clarify unclear scenarios or expected behavior with QA, Developers, or Business teams before implementation.
- Understanding of edge cases and negative scenarios is an advantage; QA will remain responsible for overall test coverage and test strategy.
- Mobile & System Architecture Understanding:
- Experience working with or testing native mobile applications.
- Familiarity with mini app / embedded app environments is a plus.
- Able to understand solution design, API flows, sequence diagrams, and integration between App, API, and Backend systems.
- Technical Investigation & Troubleshooting:
- Able to investigate automation failures and distinguish between:
- Automation script / framework issues
- Test data or environment issues
- Application defects
- Experience reviewing application logs and observability tools such as Kibana and Dynatrace is preferred.
- Basic understanding of backend data flow and ability to execute simple database queries for data verification.
- Able to investigate automation failures and distinguish between:
- Defect & Issue Coordination:
- When an automation execution identifies a potential application defect, collect sufficient evidence such as logs, screenshots, recordings, API responses, or relevant test data.
- Coordinate with QA and Developers to confirm the issue and support defect investigation.
- Track and follow up on automation-related blockers or defects until resolution.
- Automation Framework & Maintenance:
- Maintain automation scripts when application flows or requirements change.
- Support improvements to automation framework components, reusable utilities, reporting, test data handling, and CI/CD integration.
- Troubleshoot flaky tests and improve automation stability and execution reliability.
- Work Arrangement: Able to work on-site 1-3 days per week under a hybrid working.
Key Expectations
- Engineering Mindset: Focus on building reliable, maintainable, and reusable automation rather than only completing individual scripts.
- Test Understanding: Able to understand the intention of test cases and expected business/system behavior before automating them.
- Investigation: Able to analyze failures beyond the automation layer and perform initial investigation across Application, API, Backend, environment, and test data.
- Communication & Coordination: Able to work effectively with QA, Developers, and other technical teams to clarify requirements, investigate issues, and resolve blockers.
- Ownership: Proactively follow up on automation failures, technical blockers, flaky tests, and dependencies without requiring close supervision.
- Collaboration with QA: QA owns test strategy, test coverage, and test case design; the Automation Developer works closely with QA to translate those scenarios into effective automated tests.
